Thanks for a really thoughtful response, Philip. Really resonate with Lakoff’s alternate metaphors and fascinating that neuropsychology bears out the importance of metaphors. And yes — not only in the New Testament, but in the Old too, many of the metaphors are much more feminine that is noticed (sometimes because of poor or deliberately obscuring translation)
And drive really should be neutral, which shows how far it is the metaphor and not just the surface of the language that we need to reclaim or remodel :)
