This is so extraordinary and traumatic, Lisa. A story you want to put behind you I imagine, but wow — your friend is right that you too are a miracle. I wonder sometimes how much of life is barely surviving some huge catastrophe — most often not even knowing what we’ve escaped. We are fragile and yet so tenacious. I’m sure your son’s girlfriend will know that so much shock is not who you are and I’ll wager that the welcome was still warm with all you were contending with internally.
